Today I was searching for a new Facebook Like button to replace the previous plugin that I’d been using, because a recent upgrade led to badly-written code.

My suggestion for this plugin: please make it easier for users to insert the plugin manually to our templates. As a general rule, I refuse to use plugins that automatically put elements on my page without giving me the option of doing it manually.

It’s easy to find the function from the PHP file, but there’s no option to stop the plugin from automatically inserting the function again. This results in two “like” buttons on the same page. and the only way around that is to edit the plugin. Again, I can do that easily, but I won’t: because I know that every time I have to upgrade this plugin, I’ll have to do the same thing again.

  • I’ve found that this plugin shows up under all my sidebars and in about three different places on my site, which I don’t want. I ONLY want it to show up under a post.

Anyone have any idea how to stop these duplcate buttons from showing up please ? There seems to be no edit facility on the plugin.

Use a different plugin, is my advice. It seems to be completely useless if your theme has anything that makes it structurally different to one of the default WordPress themes. Plugins show up in random locations and they’re hard to align properly because there’s no customisation available.
