• Hi,

My website, like many, uses the WordPress category functionality. To limit the amount of posts shown in one category archive page and provide useful navigation to the user, I use the WP Page Numbers plugin.

However, having multiple archive category pages could cause a duplication issues. Through the use of wild cards I have made sure all Meta titles and descriptions are different, but what I would really like to do is add a canonical tag to point the 1st page of the category. Does anyone know how you can set individual canonicals for each category?

Also, does anyone know how to add rel=”NoFollow” to the pagination links?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hello I’ve been trying very hard to find out the answer to this question. As the site I have taken on has a WP blog with multiple categories which are giving me lots of duplicates. All I turn up when I research is more discussion but no advise on practical solutions. I don’t wont to just add the Yoast SEO plugin without getting a handle on this individual problem. Sorry to reply with no answer, just a question, but have you found out anything more. I will keep on asking around, as soon as I get some answers I will share it!

Hi, I’ve managed to hack the WP Page Numbers plugin to use no-follow on the pagination. However, I can’t find a solution to the canonical problem, which is very frustrating and not very good for SEO.

Also, to avoid actual page duplications you can use a Meta plugin which will allow you to insert wild cards into the category pages titles so you can have the page number in every Meta title and description. This will solve the duplication issue to an extent, but you are still left with many near identical pages all competing for the same ranking.

    Thanks,

    Chris

yeah, would be so great if the developers would bother to answer these questions, as the canonical URL for categories is damn important …

    do they still exist?

my google sitemap already screems about that!
