Got a complaint – someone tried to register on ploverpark.com/blog and they couldn’t. Never got an email.

Tried a new registration myself and the same, got no email. WordPress claimed success but nothing came.

The ‘general’ settings were anyone could register and my email was a local email on the server, from that domain. I checked it and found no mail there at all.

I changed that email address to my yahoo address and tried another registration. No good. Nothing.

Is this something to do with WordPress and how I’ve configured it or is it something to do with my Domain Host?

Also in general settings I’ve got the ‘wordpress address’ and the ‘site address’ as the same. I don’t really understand what the significance of those two are. Just addresses for displaying here and there or more important than that?

    regards,

    dh

My domain host found that post, read it and read further. Read the posts pointed to in the six and five year old thread where they talked about a bug amongst a whole scad of other things. Told me they reckon it is a wordpress bug.

Six years old? They don’t have it sorted yet? I should follow all these five/six year old directions trying to make it work?

Well… IT WORKED! Grouchy old bugger that I am. I used that wonderful smtpconfigure plugin and after failing with smtp localhost connect I used gmail and now it is functioning.

Now – should I start a new thread? – what do I do about the person/s that have already opened accounts and had passwords sent to them that they never got and which I don’t know, can’t access?

    Delete their accounts?

    1. It’s not a bug – it’s a hosting issue
    2. The solution/explanation is still valid.

With regard to your existing accounts, you could delete each one and then re-register it – ensuring that the “send copy” checkbox is ticked. That way, they will get an email.

Yep. I’ll copy your remarks to my host.. they might take some notice and help out others in future – you’d think they’d be keen to, wouldn’t you, how many hundreds of wordpress blogs will attempt to get up on their servers?

Actually I caught it early – I got a complaint – there’s only one registrant that I know of. I can get back to that one. Perhaps I can change passwords? No? Well delete and restart.

I was told by my host after their investigation that they could see new registrants had been registered but emails had not been sent – when I looked I failed to see any new registrants in there – apart from those I’d created myself. In particular I failed to see this new registrant the subject of the complaint.

So I’m doubtful that anyone else has tried to register, I’m doubtful that one did it properly, I’m doubtful that it sent emails prior to this – well I know it didn’t.

But it is all okay now. Using gmail is okay with me. No downside to that is there?

and thank you for your help, esmi – i rather think it is not the first time you’ve helped me.

    regards,

    dh

No downside to that is there?

    Not that I’m aware of.

Well that’s that, then. All’s well that ends well.

    Thanks again.

    ??

Here’s the issue in a nutshell:
My users who have yahoo or gmail cannot receive emails from my blog.
Those who register using yahoo or gmail cannot receive passwords.
Cannot send test emails to any yahoo or gmail accounts.

    I’m using WordPress Version 3.2.1.
    I installed a plugin named WP-Mail-SMTP Version 0.9.1
My settings for WP-Mail-SMTP are as follows:
    From Email = [email protected]
    From Name = Metrand Corp
Mailer = Send all WordPress emails via SMTP
Return Path = [ ] Set the return-path to match the From Email unchecked
    SMTP Host = mail.metrand.com
    SMTP Port = 25
    Encryption = No encryption
Authentication = No: Do not use SMTP authentication
    User name = blogger
    Password = ***********

There’s a function to “Send Test” an e-mail so I send to the following:
    [email protected] – successful
    [email protected] – successful
    [email protected] – successful
    [email protected] – failed
    [email protected] – failed

Here’s the error message for Send Test to yahoo:
“SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: [email protected]
SMTP server error: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for [email protected]

Here’s the error message for Send Test to gmail:
“SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: [email protected]
SMTP server error: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for [email protected]

For users who have yahoo or gmail accounts who register to my blog site: https://blog.metrand.com – they are not getting e-mails for their password.

Those who register using email accounts other than yahoo or gmail are successful.

    Please help. Thanks.
