• Hello,

I am having an issue with my current installation of WordPress MU (3.1) causing an EXTREMELY high query calls to the tmp place within the database. It is so high that is consistently crashing my host.

I am having trouble pinpointing the issue. I’ve tried shutting down many of the plugins, then doing a check and its still occurring.

I am wondering if someone has seen this before or they could suggest certain lines of code, files, etc to check for this.

Thanks for any help in advance!

    Best,
    Grant

    What plugins are you running?

And how many blogs do you have?

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

We currently have 15 subdomains on our site. We are using the FeedWordPress plugin to feed in articles from 100+ sites to 5 of the subdomains. I’ve already turned this plugin off though, and the issue is still occurring.

    We are also using:

    WP-Related Posts
    WP Super Cache
    Dynamic Content Gallery
    All in One SEO Pack
    Embed Allower
Sitemaps and SEO – WordPress Multisite Style
    Recent Global Posts Feed

    Thanks

Recent Global Posts Feed may be it.

Pulling feeds across your sites will TOTALLY tank you after a while (too much recursive checking)

Alright, thanks. I’ll shut that down and give it a try.

That plugin didn’t seem to stop it, the host company now pointed to another site in my network that is running 12 blogs on MU 3.1

I’ve stopped the plugin Sitewide Tags Blog and waiting on a response from them.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

Wait … another site is running 12 blogs?

You mean you have multiple installs of WordPress Multisite or…?

    Yes… plus some more..

I see your in the Chicago area, as am I. Do you have AIM or Skype?

    Thanks

We just got a spike of traffic from another site so I asked them if thats the issue and this was their response:

That could certainly be possible but usually in situations like that the loud would be sustained for greater periods of time. What I’m seeing is a load spike out of relatively nowhere and then it settles back down again.

And with that site, my sites crashed again..

I am in Chicago, but I’m not for hire at this time. And yes, if you wanna AIM/Skype, it’s a hire thing. S’how I roll.

    Yes… plus some more..

Okay, let’s get to the REAL meat of the matter.

How many sites TOTAL are on your server. Add ’em all up. THEN tell us what kind of server you’re on (Shared, VPS, Dedicated, etc).

Frankly, at just the bare 30 sites you’ve described so far, you need at LEAST a VPS, and probably a Dedicated server.

We are using the FeedWordPress plugin to feed in articles from 100+ sites to 5 of the subdomains.

    This will do it.

Yeah, but that it’s happening AFTER this:

I’ve already turned this plugin off though, and the issue is still occurring.

makes me think the server is underpowered.

Yes, we did turn it off and are still get the issues. Our host company says its not related to their resources. They believe if we stop this we will be fine. They said moving up in resources would be like adding a band aid to the issue.

I will post the query call they sent us in a minute.

Still, I’d LOVE to know the answer to this:

How many sites TOTAL are on your server. Add ’em all up. THEN tell us what kind of server you’re on (Shared, VPS, Dedicated, etc).

Your site MAY be right and their resources MAY be appropriate for what you’ve got, but there’s also a possibility the experts here may spot something missing.

Alright. So we are running 2 MU sites which I explained, and another 115 single installs. Running on a VPS.

Whats happening is there are random spikes of loads that happen out of nowhere according to the host, and it shuts everything down. Here are the calls they sent:

    23768 | xxxx_gbrown | localhost | xxxx_wordpress | Query | 99 | Opening tables | SELECT wp_7_posts.* FROM wp_7_posts WHERE 1=1 AND wp_7_posts.post_name = 'wisconsin-fires-womens | 8:50
    | 23770 | xxxx_gbrown | localhost | xxxx_wordpress | Query | 23 | Opening tables | SELECT option_value FROM wp_12_options WHERE option_name = 'preload_cache_counter' LIMIT 1 |

    Thanks
