• The wp-security-scan recommends a change to the admin account name (and it seems a reasonably logical step to aid against dictionary attacks).

The issue is that this breaks the Network Admin link in the upper right corner of the screen. It is no longer there. I changed it and changed it back and changed it again and the Network Admin link appears or disappears with the name change.

So my guess is that the Network admin link is somehow hard coded to expect Admin as the user account.

    Any ideas ?

    cheers
    Tony

Hmm. No, my admin ID is not (and has never been) admin. I would speculate that since the Network Admin list is handled by user NAME, you have to add the new ID somehow.

I would make a second ID, make THAT the super admin, and then delete the first one.

no, my guess is you made a new username and did not make them a Super Admin.

And you need to do THAT while logged in as a Super Admin, and visit the user’s profile page. then tick the checkbox that says “make this user a super admin”.
