When they said ‘The theme is…’ what they meant was the theme of the PROJECT, not the actual theme.

I believe we’re keeping Twenty Ten for a while, still.

ah ha! But there is now a new theme -2011- built on Duster for 3.2

After changing several sites to a child of Twenty ten, thinking it would be around as default and upgraded for awhile, seems like too much work now. (rant over)

Yes, but Twenty Ten will still be kept, it just won’t be default anymore. You can still keep and use it ?? I plan to!

The theme is “faster, lighter.” We’re dropping support for outdated technologies. We’re looking at making things faster, and we’re looking at making the writing experience more lightweight and calming.

That refers to the PHP 5 requirement, the dropping of IE 6 support etc etc ??

I understand it will still be in use, but if it were the default and some new core tidbit got added then the theme would get that upgrade as well, or so I thought.
Then again I still had to go into functions.php and add all the post formats any way…
oh well, I can’t keep up with WP these day LOL.

I will keep using the 2010 childs I have for now..
and with 2010 not the default (soon), all those who made changes without a child theme, won’t have to worry about it being written over.

Hopefully you could reparent your 2010 child theme’s to the new Duster..
