[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Featured images from Nextgen show as thumbs not the full image

  • Hi.

    New themes has the function of setting a “featured image” which appear next to each post in the blog index.

    The native Gallery of wordpress does not display all images under the folder “uploads” (I wish there is a way to do that), but only images associated with the posts.

    So I have added the images to the Nextgen Gallery. But if I select an image from the NextGen gallery, the featured image displayed is the thumb and not the full size image, although I check the “Full size” checkbox, before hitting the “use as featured image” button.

    Add to this, the “Add media file from URL” function does not appear to really work for Featured images. There is simply no “use as featured image” in the “from url” window.

    What to do ?

  • Having the same problem with the NexGen thumbnail being added, not the full size.

    Any one able to help out?

    I never did get any where with this. I seem to remember Alex Rabe, the developer of NextGen saying it was to do with the way the plugin accesses images, compared to the way WP uses featured images, which meant they could never be used in this way, but hopefully there may have been some developments? Anyone?!

    Shame if not, as it means a lot of duplicated work & images.

    Depending on the way your theme uses the featured image there should be a fix included in the next release.

    I did use the release candidate code. for the thumbnail.php file. It fixed the scaling of the thumb, but it still won’t allow the image to go full size…Was there more fixes in the next release?

    The featured image size is defined in your theme and is independent you choosing full size or not. So if you want full size images as featured images you need to look into your theme code and change the size there.

    So unless the the_post_thumbnail is called with the ‘full’ option in the code it will not display the image as full sized.
