• I haven’t officially started the WordPress site, mainly because all the templates I find either are strictly blog looking or nothing like what I’m visualizing for the website. I do want at least two blog features on the website as well as a media feed (youtube or videos I link to) if possible. If this is the wrong area, my apologies but I’ve been looking at templates, themes, examples, and whatnot for over a month and a half now and finding absolutely NOTHING that even remotely can be tweaked…at least I don’t think so.

As I understand WordPress works, it can be in a multiple column setup with a header and footer bar, which is why I’m thinking Word Press is probably what I can use simplest. Header bar is my site title. Far left column will be a rotating set of graphics (new graphic for each refresh or return to the page), middle column would be the links to other pages of the website and the far right column would be the ‘media’ portion. The footer would be the fine print text like graphic thanks, disclaimers, etc.

Is this even possible for WordPress to pull off or am I stuck with needing something alot more complicate and WAY beyond my basic html/some java abilities? I know absolutely nothing about css or anything along this line but have no choice but to do this on my own. I have a current website not handled by Word Press and essentially am revamping the whole thing.

    Thoughts? Advice? Help?

    Thanks.

  • Honestly, I think you can find a theme that is close and then tweak the CSS and PHP files.

Be sure you save the tweaked files to a separate folder.

When you have tweaked them enough and think you have close to what you want, then use those tweaked files as the basis for creating your own unique theme.

    Those are my thoughts.

I have created a website, started 1 February. It has come a long way.

    Start simple.

What I find is there is no magic bullet and very few folks interested in sharing the information you need for fear you might hack their site. That is my guess.

Also, when folks write about the Source Code in their blogs or posts, they are a bit vague, as to precisely where to fit the code in or where it goes in the style.css or what precise php file.

IT geeks or pretend to be.

Problem is there’s not even one that’s even REMOTELY workable at all. Everything I find are literally blog sites or single page business sites with faded backgrounds and fancy crap that I have no interest in whatsoever or even know how they did it, let alone where to find the option on WordPress. Thus far, I’m not so impressed with WordPress, despite the thousands of people apparently enamoured of it. I guess if you want a website that looks like everyone else but different graphics, WordPress is the program for you.

Have you looked at themes other than the ones here? There are many themes that are not blog-based or one-pagers. Some are premium and may cost you a few bucks but they can provide you a framework. Feel free to reach out and I’ll provide you with some free sources.

Try this template. This is what i bought to build my website. It was purchased through theme forest and works perfect for what I need it for. It has lots of functionable pages to work with, videos, portfolios etc, https://themeforest.net/item/prosto-business-portfolio-cms-wordpress-theme/full_screen_preview/102796 i am working on this website with this theme https://www.retailguidance.com
