Hi. I am a newbie. I searched for my question but posts I found were either not what I was looking for or unresolved…

I have a LINK section in my left sidebar. I would like to rename it to, say, INTERNAL LINKS. I would like to create another, separate link section, called, for example EXTERNAL LINKS.

Could you please let me know how to do this?

The blog is at uniformdesign/blog and I am using the Benevolence theme.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Voodoo.

I applied different link categories, but they still all show up under the same heading called LINKS. Also, the categories are not visible. I would like to have to separate elements in my sidebar. Don’t want the two types of links mixing…

After you create link categories and add links in the admin panel, placing them on your site (i.e. in your sidebar) is done via widgets. On the Appearance > Widgets page, you can drag multiple “Links” widgets to your sidebar, and in the options of each widget you select the link category you want to display.

Hi Douglas. Thanks for your response. So this is what I found out when I went to the widgets page:

“The theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions.”

I will check out the instructions. I hope I can figure it out, otherwise i will have to change the theme.

If you’re getting that message, then you don’t actually have a “sidebar” as you put it, as sidebars are generally described as widget ready areas. You would need to look at the documentation for your theme and see if it says anything about the links.

Please note that links are completely different than internal navigation, which is handled elsewhere. If you’re new to WordPress, you should take a look in the Codex first, as there is a ton of excellent information there.
