• I just tried to update my blog and got:

“You don’t have permission to access /jlog/wp-admin/post.php on this server”

This is the first time I have gotten this, and I’ve made no changes since I posted an entry to the blog last week. Any thoughts on why? Have have the ability to make admin changes everywhere else.

I am running WP 1.2.2 . I just recently moved and am temporarily constrained by dial-up. Updating to 1.5 would be painful. I have only made 15 posts to the blog.

Contact your hosting provider. If that was a sudden occurrence, then the problem is on their end.

I’ve submitted a ticket to my host, but I wonder if it is server side. I have access to the post.php file through my host cpanel and can change access permission from 644 to 666 or whatever. So as far as my host is concerned I have access to post.php.

WP won’t allow me to post though?

My host made sure the access for wp-admin was 755 and the access for post.php is 644. It seems that word press is not recognizing my user (I am the only user on this blog). Any thoughts?

“You don’t have permission to access /jlog/wp-admin/post.php on this server” is a server issue, not a WordPress issue. Who is your hosting provider?

I just updated them on the status as well, perhaps they will have a solution.

Edit to add, that I attempted to creat a new user and adjusted to the correct level, but still got the same error. It seems this is server side.

As others have mentioned, this is due to overzealous security measures on the server side. This is something only your ISP can tweak, and probably won’t. The problem is that certain words used to hack sites, most notably “curl” are being blocked, and hence the 403 error.

My solution, using suggestions from others in this forum, is to:
– Cut-and-paste your post to Notepad or somewhere else.
– Slowly cut-and-paste it back to WP, say, one paragraph at a time, and save the post.
– Repeat this until you get the 403 error.
– Once this happens, you know that problem word(s) is in the last paragraph.

Now repeat the above but type a few words, then save, repeat until you get 403. Eventually you’ll be able to identify the problem word(s).

Once you’ve indentified it, here are two possible solutions:

1. Split the word with a blank remark. Instead of ‘curl’ (a known problem word) type c<!-- -->url

2. Someone else suggested replacing the space before the problem word with the html ' '. Instead of ‘curl’ type curl

I’ve tried Option 1, and it worked for me.

Really helpful would be a list of all problem words, so we’d know what to look for, or a script that would automatically ‘fix’ all the problem words.
