• I admit it’s not THE most important plugin, but at least, it’s the one I’m waiting for impatiently !

What is a live gravatar ?

When you’re commenting on a post, once you’ve entered your email address, the comment preview (I assume it’s mandatory nowadays) instantly shows your gravatar. No need to send the form to see it, it’s already there. So you get the EXACT picture of how your comment will look like once posted.

And it has been done already. But not for WordPress. Check : https://fecklessmind.com/main/7/live-comment-preview-now-with-live-gravatars

    It’s REALLY nice.

Also, no need to reload the whole page to post the comment. I don’t know how it’s done (which is good, it’s transparent to us), but it’s wicked !

And last but not least, once your comment is posted, there is a special formating (pink sidebars) to that post only, that let you know in a simple manner that it HAS BEEN posted.

All in all, the website is just fantastic, but the commenting part is just fabulous. I wish we could get the same (sort of) thing.
Any coding wizard willing to fulfill my polite request ?

    Cheers ??

  • Hadn’t seen that, but it’s nice.

In terms of the Gravatar preview, as I commented on that post, everything he wrote is immediately and easily applicable to WordPress. I have it in my comment previews as we speak and it took about a minute to do. He came up with a very slick way of doing it, I’m impressed.

I must admit I didn’t get how he did it.
Two reasons : I’m no javascript expert, english is not my native language.
So every explanation he provided aren’t clear to me. For example, I couldn’t distinguish what was TextPattern specific, and what wasn’t. But I’ll look at your source to sort this out.
    Thanks ??

Ahh… makes sense. I simply copied his Javascript virtually verbatum into my script file, added the “onblur” Javascript to the email field of the comment form, and modified the preview Gravatar image to have the appropriate id (“preview-gravatar”). Hopefully that’ll point you in the right direction. Nice find, I dig it a bunch.

    Great.
I’m not ready to make the move (I’d rather NOT modify WP files, otherwise it’s always a pain when I need to upgrade. I’d rather find an external solution, read : a plugin).
But at least I’m happy that you found a way to integrate it elegantely on your blog.

chiensavant, to be clear I only modified theme files, not core files.

So I must just be completely missing this…

I have Live Comment Preview 1.7 installed, but I really can’t figure out how to add the gravatar preview.

    Any help?
