    Hello,

I am the neglectful admin for a wordpress site that’s never been upgraded from its initial 2.5.1 installation.

Before I click the “update to 3.1” button, is there anything I should consider? I’ve obviously backed up the site and the database. I’m going to check out the widgets/plugins to make sure there are compatible releases… Anything I’m not thinking of?

Any specific concerns going from 2.x to 3.x? Should I worry at all about the theme?

This is my only WordPress site and I guess I’m just a little disbelieving that updating to a new version can possibly be easy and problem-free.

    Thanks,

    Sam

Yeah. Make a REALLY good backup first. The auto upgrade SHOULD work, but it MAY not (I mean, wow, you’re really out of date ?? ). You may need to do a manual upgrade. I’ve heard people say it works, though so, give it a shot.

As for themes, your theme will probably keep working, but it’ll lack features.

If you have the Automatic Upgrade plugin installed, delete it. It is no longer needed and in fact can cause a conflict with the built-in automatic upgrade. Also make sure your PHP version is current.

Thanks. I’ll look out for those things and build in some time for troubleshooting.
