[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] FYI: Thumbnail/Image not displaying issues

First off NextGEN is a great plugin. I have been using it for a long time on a number of sites, one with more than 30K images.

I have been seeing a number of people posting that they are having issues with thumbnail not being displayed after uploading an image and/or when they click on the image name the it will not display.

I have had a similar issue from time to time. But have found that every time I had this issue there was an issue with the filename or filename extension.

I don’t know how many times I have imported a fold of images and had this issue. I have not uploaded many single or a few images at a time. But most like it would happen doing that as well. But if your filenames have an upper case extension or just one of the letters in the file extension in upper case, it will cause your images not to load and your thumbnails not to be displayed. You can have upper, lower and mixed case in the file name just not in the file extension. Unless you are being hosted on a Windows IIS server.

So before uploading your images make sure you check the case of your filename extensions.
