Custom Loop – Does WP Loops anyway?

I am debugging my theme to lower CPU usage, using xdebug, on a customized index.php page, with a custom DB loop; posts are “loaded” with my code, not using WP’s loop.

I was wondering if in this case WP will load “his” posts anyway, although they’re not used, due to the custom loop or not.

If so, this would bring in unwanted overhead; if so, I’d like to know if there’s a way to disable this, freeing resources.
