  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. You may need to access /wp-login.php to get this to kick in fully.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

I tried both and it changed a bit but still no luck any other ideas…does it matter that my main folder is blog and not wordpress?
Thank you so much for responding.

No – that won’t affect anything.

What version of WordPress were you using before you upgraded? Did you make a database backup before upgrading?

I did make a back up of the blog before upgrading. I have ftp copied the back up version back over hoping I could get back to the admin page
    and no luck.

I’m ready to move forward again with the upgrade to 3.0.4 again and now that I’m reading the requirements I don’t think I have the current php or MySQL versions.

Upgrading these is getting beyond my web experience. I’ll keep researching, but does that sound possible? That I need to make these upgrades? and is it really complicated?
    thanks again.

Not the blog. A database backup?

No? I just copied the blog folder to my desktop. Is that not enough back up?

No. All of your content is stored in your database. So you need to backup your database regularly but especially before upgrading.

    mangocrash,

Have a look at this which explains backing up wordpress; there’s specific instructions explaining how to backup your database:

Great. Thank you both so much for the help. Once I am backed up will I then need to update the database to the current php or MySQL versions or will wordpress then be able to update the database and that might take care of it?

WordPress relies on the correct versions of PHP and MySQL being installed on your environment, so its up you or your hosting company to set this up first.

Okay great. I think I’m making progress. I had to upgrade my server plan because I had over shot my database usage. Once I get the new plan configured it should be running PHP 4 automatically. I just need to make sure I copy everything over safely. Thanks so much!

    2ells and esmi,
You both helped me so much get my blog back up and running. Thank you!
One last minor question if you don’t mind.

When I try to upload a new photo I get an error message saying wp cannot create the directory and is it’s parent directory writable by the server? Any ideas how I should fix this would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.
