Is it possible to preset taxonomy terms in a plugin?

I am looking for a solution for creating preset custom taxonomy terms in a plugin. I’ve created a plugin that creates the custom taxonomy but I need to also have that plugin set a list of terms that will write to the database when the plugin is activated.
