I’m trying to detox from a “Paged Comments” plug-in to manage the high volume of comments I get on my site (several hundred per post, several thousand on weekly giveaways) but everytime I rely on WP’s built-in comment paging it can’t handle it and any post with more than 800+ comments just don’t load. Seems like it may be a memory limit issue (I’m also running WPSuperCache). I’d just stick with “Paged Comments” but I’m trying to add comment threading too.

Anyone know how to make high comments run more efficiently?

  • Unfortunately blogs with lots of comments aren’t handled well but the usual advice for scaling applies – use innodb for the comments table and give MySQL more memory.

Have you enabled the cache rebuild system in Supercache? That should help somewhat.

    Thanks Donncha,

I was able to up my memory limit in PHP and it seems to have solved the problem for the most part. And yes, I’ve enabled the cache rebuild system in Supecache.
