• I’ve made a few sites using TwentyTen child themes, I now want to move on and learn how to make my own themes. I’m pretty good with CSS, but don’t know a lot of PHP at all. I realise there is a lot of documentation on the codex, but I’m just wondering if anyone can recommend any resources to learn how to create a theme/ learn the relevant PHP. I have the Smashing WordPress book, but it’s getting a bit out of date now.

    Thanks

Hi I got myself a copy of this book. I think it′s great, though my PHP isn′t quite up to the level assumed by the book. Can anyone recommend where I can learn basic PHP for WordPress? Thanks

There are any number of books that can be bought (or borrowed from a local library), but a great place to start learning for free is on the W3Schools site. Here’s the link specifically for PHP: https://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp.

You can also do a Google search for “PHP Tutorials”, or something similar.
