• How do I embed youtube video on my site? I have tried using the ‘add video’ function, but all I get is the url address displayed on the blog, without the video. Also, can anyone reccommend a good plug in for embedding video nicely?

  • Go to the YouTube video and get the “Embed” code. If you are putting it onto a page or post, make sure you are in the HTML editor and paste that code into it.

If you are putting it into a widget, drag and drop a “Text” widget (arbitary text or HTML) and paste the code into there and click save.

There may a plugin that streamlines this process, but I’ve come across one yet.

    Hope that helps!

Ok, thanks… I’m a bit confused, because in a magazine I have about wordpress they recommend a plug in called Smartyoutube, which makes it easier to add video nicely. In order to make it work, you’re supposed to pre-fix https:// with a ‘v’,like this: htttpv: on the video url link. But if you’re not supposed to use the url link, then I don’t understand how the plug in works.
Also, why then does WP have a function for adding video that asks for a url?

As far as I know…adding a media file via a URL only inserts a link, it doesnt actually embed the video itself. Embedding a video requires you to use <embed> tags in the HTML editor (not the Visual editor).

Reading about that plugin, that particular plugin uses the URL but in its own way, but how it does it I can’t be sure as I’ve not used it.

When copying the URL, make sure you are copying into text rather than creating a hyperlink! If you accidently create a hyperlink, go into the HTML editor and delete the tags.
