• Dear All, happy new year, a quick question, I’ve a blog using wordpress at https://www.theblackwaterfall.com and I’ve been using nice theme called Sugarcane based on Thematic for the last year however I’ve tried to change themes to Oulipo by Andrea Mignolo. I’ve downloaded the file and dropped it into the themes file on my website and then activated it via the dashboard in the appearance/ themes section and I get this message

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function add_custom_background() in /home/theblac2/public_html/wp-content/themes/oulipo/functions.php on line 5

    What am I doing wrong, what have I done and how can I get the theme to work. i currently cant log into my website using ‘wp-admin’ I just keep getting this message.

    Thanks,

    Christian

  • as far as i know, add_custom_background() was added in wp3;

    what version of wordpress are you running?

    intermediate solution: delete or rename the oulipo theme using ftp or cpanel.
    that should bring the default theme back, and enable you to get to the admin area.

    Hi thanks for getting in touch, I think its 3.0.3. I dont know how to tell I’m afraid. I’ll do that know, delete the file and have a look thanks

    HI, yes I did that, deleted Oulipo file and everything is back to normal, all other downloaded themes seem to work fine in ‘preview’ and when activated. I’ve downloaded the latest version of Oulipo and that doesnt seem to work either. I guess its a problem with the theme itself no? Cheers, Christian

    you are running: <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.9.2" />
    that would explain the error message.

    Thanks Alchymyth, how can I correct this, do i need to run a later version? If so, is it just a case of downloading and replacing like for like? Cheers, Christian

    important: backup your database, and at least your current theme folder

    Thanks, I’ve just been on the designer’s site and yes he has a tiny detail on there that says that Oulipo is only compatible with WordPress 2.7 that explains a lot. Do you know if you can download older versions anywhere? thanks, Christian
