In a new installation of WP 3.0.4 I enabled the Multisite feature and did all the adjustments I was asked to (htaccess etc.). When I startedto add pages, I got the followiing problem: As soon as I use a permalink-structure different from the default (just page ID, this setting works), pages cannot be accessed. Instead, I get this error message:

    Not Found
The requested URL /(postname)/ was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Thank you for ideas to solve that issue.

  • I’m getting the same problem with my wp3.0 multisite – all my posts and pages and not showing if i change the permalink structure away from default – this also affects the feed for the site – the site feed is https://site.com/feed/ with new structure and doesn’t show up, but it’s https://site.com/?feed=rss2 with default structure and does show up.

need to figure this out urgently – all help appreciated – i am using latest version of wp, i.e. 3.0.4

Did you replace the contents of htaccess exactly as instructed?

As the default installation did not have a htaccess file at all, I had to generate that file and copy/pasted the code I got presented when istalling multisite. And as this code is kind of chinese to me I did not change a thing.

Anyhow, to be on the safe side I copy/pasted the code again from what I find in the “Tools/Network” section in the backend – and now it works (!?!).

Though I don’t know why it works: Thank you for setting me on the right track!

I have the same problem. I installed from the start WP 3.1 Multisite, subdomain.
I have a problem with displaying categories and posts (pages are ok) when I set custom structure(permalink settings) anything else besides the default (?p=123)… links do not work anymore.
    For Custom structure: /%category%/%postname%/
    I get this error:

    Permission Denied
    Not Found / No Access
The page you have looking for either does note exist, or you Do Not Have the permissions to access it.

That happens when I try to access links such as:
    https://site.com/category/firstcategory/
    https://site.com/firstcategory/my-first-post/

PS: I try to rewrite the .htaccess, but with no luck…

    Any help is much appreciated

nickshor – New topic please and thank you (you’re posting in a RESOLVED topic that is MONTHS old and about an older version of WP).

In your new topic, list the plugins you’re using, and if you made any changes to your permalinks (like removing the /blog/ slug).
