I have been using your sitemap for a while.

Nothing has changed in settings but only 10 blog posts are showing in my sitemap now!

I have a LOT more and they were all showing before.

I have cleared cache etc in the settings, even reset to default, but still only 10 posts show.

    Any idea what to do?

I do NOT have any caching enabled.

The settings even say there are 66 posts, yet my sitemap is only showing the 10 latest.

I tried another sitemap plugin and that worked fine. It is just this sitemap plugin that is limiting my sitemap to 10 latest posts, even though settings are set to index all 66 posts.

Hi Heather, that is very strange indeed.

What about the pages sitemap? It also seems limited to 10. Or is that coincidentally the number of pages on your site?

Could you go to Settings > XML Sitemap > Post types (tab) and change the number after “Maximum posts per sitemap”? Save settings and verify your sitemap again…

If that did not fix the issue, go back to Settings > XML Sitemap and switch the Server setting on the General tab to “Plugin”.

Settings > XML Sitemap > Post types is not limited to 10. It has 2000 and increasing it more doesn’t change anything.

I have 10 pages, so not sure about pages doing the same.

Changing server to plugin has a sitemap that is split by year sitemaps, but all posts show, not just 10.
WordPress server is what is now showing 10 even though it used to show all 66 pages and nothing has changed on my site.

I have done all the “clear post cache” etc, reset settings to default and even uninstalled and reinstalled but it still shows 10 posts.

It WAS working fine but I checked the other day and noticed it had changed to 10 for no reason.

Any other sitemap plugin works fine if I try them out, just this one has the issue.

I have been making wordpress blogs for many years and never had anything like this before.

Changing server to plugin has a sitemap that is split by year sitemaps

You can set the option “Split by” to “None” to get rid of that effect.

I have been making wordpress blogs for many years and never had anything like this before.

I have not seen it either…

Could I ask you to do the following test? But I completely understand if you do not have time, patience or interest in doing all these steps to find out more. Please do not feel obliged ??

    1. Install and activate the plugin Health Check & Troubleshooting
    2. From your Plugins admin page, find the link Troubleshoot that you see at the XML Sitemap & Google News plugin. Note: your site will remain fully functional for regular visitors except for you it will turn off all other plugins and switch to the default theme allowing.
    3. Go to Settings > XML Sitemap and switch back to Server: WordPress
    4. Save and follow the link on the right, Open your?XML Sitemap Index and see if posts are still limited to 10.

If still only 10, then I’m at a loss and have no way to explain the issue. But if all posts are there, then the issue is coming from a conflict with another plugin or your theme.

The Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin allows you to switch on each plugin one by one and switch back to your normal theme in the dialog at the top of the Plugins or Dashboard page (dropdowns on the right). Verifying the sitemap in between changes should help to find the conflict.

After all this, simply hit the button Disable Troubleshooting Mode to make the site come back to normal for you.

I just spent a while trying to do that unsuccessfully using that plugin.
My chronic illnesses mean I am giving up as it is harder to do this than just do it all manually which does the same thing.

So instead I just did it manually and disabled all plugins, changed to base theme and enabled your plugin alone and still 10 posts. I tried different themes and still 10 posts.

Nothing has changed on my site in the time it went from working for about 9 or so months none stop, to not working at all.
Nothing at all changed, not even a plugin update as I check my site and sitemap is working correctly all the time, and I manually update things so that I know if a update breaks anything, so nothing at all has updated or changed since it went from working to not working.
It just stopped working correctly one day and started showing 10 posts and no plugins/themes/wordpress had updated, it just changed to 10 posts without anything changing my end whatsoever.

And seeing as it still says 10 posts even with all other plugins disabled and even the base theme or any theme, it isn’t a conflict.

Other sitemap plugins work fine as does using “plugin” for server.

Been using wordpress since the early 00’s, around 2007, and never seen anything like this before.

Thank you very much for you time and patience! I completely understand if you do not wish to continue to invest more in this weird issue. You have already done much more than many would!

And seeing as it still says 10 posts even with all other plugins disabled and even the base theme or any theme, it isn’t a conflict.

It does look like it. Which means I won’t be able to reproduce (and fix) the issue. Sorry :/

The only thing I can think of is that 10 corresponds with the default values set on Settings > Reading for the options Blog pages show at most and Syndication feeds show the most recent

These values should not be affecting the sitemaps but maybe it is worth checking…

In any case, leaving the Server settings to Plugin (apparently) fixes it ??

Thank you again for all your patience and work!

The only thing I can think of is that 10 corresponds with the default values set on Settings > Reading for the options Blog pages show at most and Syndication feeds show the most recent

Thought of that already and altered it higher but it doesn’t change the sitemap posts only showing 10.

    Very strange issue.

But yes if I leave the server at plugin it is ok, I just can’t use server as the setting.

One quick question, does this server setting (plugin vs wordpress) change the resource usage on my webhost server? Or does it not affect it?

It should not make much difference.

Specially if you leave options like “dynamic priority calculation” and “update lastmod on comments” off. If you have many posts, you can set “Split by” to “Year” or even “Month” in case of very many posts, otherwise just use “None”. And in most cases, I would recommend switching off the taxonomy and user sitemaps.
