• Hi. I am having a remarkably weird problem. Under “style” in Twenty Twenty Four and every other theme I have experimented with on my machine and using different browsers, I cannot get any of the tools for selecting colors (e.g., sliders, pickers) to appear properly or to change the style of anything on the website I am building. I can see where sliders/pickers are meant to appear but no actual colors show up, and I am not able to alter the style of my website through any tricky means I can think of. I worked carefully with the tech people at my fabulous web host, NameHero, and learned that when they logged into my account they were able to get colors working properly. I fired up (very slowly!) my old computer that runs (barely) on Windows 7, and it also displayed color information properly. I cleared my cache multiple times on my new computer, to no avail, and tried every trick NameHero offered. No dice. Before I bring my computer to a technician (who I fear would also not have seen such an issue before)–would anyone have an idea of what could be causing this weird problem? Something about Windows 11? Thank you so much.

  • Hello @kjbohmgarden

This is indeed a weird issue. Could not see any past reports.

Could you please check if the browsers on your computer are on their latest version https://browsehappy.com/

If they are, please disable all the browser extensions that you have added to it and see if that helps. Also, check on the Web Inspector>> Console if you notice any errors when you try to make a colour selection. Ref: https://monosnap.com/file/rlyuvvoBpjboChCAPSnofm1ePU1FYv

Quite possibly I suspect some browser extension could be conflicting with the functionality. Did you check if you are able to manually insert the Hex codes to see if they work? Ref: https://monosnap.com/file/kluZUH1GoBYBsbMoMDQ7WFsAkFq0p3

Thank you so much for giving this some thought. The browsers are the latest versions. I have tried deleting extensions but that hasn’t worked. I think Web Inspector is for Apple devices?–but I am running Windows 11. I did change the hex code manually in WordPress and the change did show up in a different device.

I had another weird discovery: In using the plugin Webba, I found myself in an area where there was supposed to be a visible slider. There wasn’t one that I could see, but if I played around with the mouse a bit I could “catch” something so as to change the value that the slider was supposed to control. I wondered if this was related to the issue with color pickers. Webba customer support was surprised by this issue and they weren’t able to help me resolve it (though, to their credit, they really tried!).

As it happens, I am switching from Windows 11 to Linux in a few days and am wondering if that will somehow solve the problem. Thank you again for your help, I appreciate it!

I think Web Inspector is for Apple devices?

No, you should be able to access it on a Windows PC too, you can open it by doing a right click on the mouse and clicking on “Inspect Element”.

If you are still facing the issue, you can check if there is any error logged in the Web Inspector >> Console tab https://monosnap.com/file/rlyuvvoBpjboChCAPSnofm1ePU1FYv

I just converted my Lenovo Ideapad to the Linux Ubuntu operating system and the problem went away! It seems that Windows 11 was indeed the culprit. I had gone into settings in Windows and checked off “always show sliders” (or something like that) and that hadn’t solved the problem. I had also experimented with some other Windows settings, also with no luck. I put that out there in case anyone else should encounter a similar problem.

    Thank you for your help!
