How could you even in dream to think that something like this could generate 500K files? How as a even a developer you test that? It makes no sense! Horrible Horrible stuff! No matter what settings were applied, no cache functionality should create that many files.

I’m a developer myself and this is shocking to me.

    Hello@ripperds

First of all, I am sorry about the problems you may have experienced with the W3 Total Cache.
The W3 Total Cache is the most complete optimization plugin. And it is like that because it offers the most options and the most freedom to the users to use those options.
This being said, depending on the website (and the options) it’s very easy to generate this number of files when caching. If most of the features like Page Cache, DB Caching, Minify, and especially Object Cache is used with the Disk Caching method, the files that are generated can reach big numbers.
This being said, unlike other optimization plugins, the W3 Total Cache offers multiple options when it comes to caching engines that can be used for the caching modules.
This includes Redis, Memcached and others.
Just the number of objects that are generated on a single page can be 10-40 depending on the theme and the plugins that are being used.
To this, add the number of pages, minified files, DB queries, and the number of visits and invalidations. And the big website can generate that number of cached files if caching to Disk.
We have added the warning for OC and DB Caching when the Disk caching method is selected that notifies the users that it’s not recommended to use it.
I would be more than happy to assist you with the settings and configuration and answer any specific questions about the W3 Total Cache.

However, I have not seen a single ticket or a topic opened for this.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will be happy to answer.

    Thanks!
