• I installed the plug in for my wordpress site as suggested by mailchimp. It looked terrible. When I e-mailed them I was told that while the color was changeable (I’ve since changed it as best I could) the size was an auto-fit. Well, if you look at my website, https://www.audreyrlwyatt.com, you will see that it did not autofit. What can I do about this? It looks terrible, very unprofessional. I need to have a sign-up form but I don’t want one that detracts from my beautiful site.

I should tell you I know absolutely nothing about code.

    Please advise asap.

  • It looks like you’ve just placed it oddly. If it was in one of the columns it would display correctly based on their bounds. Since it’s not, it is auto-fitting to size of the container you have it in.

That’s interesting. I didn’t have the ability to place it at all. It was installed, as in “made available for my use” and then I basically turned it on. There’s only one column for it to be in and it’s stretched way past that.

    Does this information help?

You should talk to who ever “made it available for your use”. It could be an issue with your theme not supporting widgets correctly and/or possibly something fixed by using the advanced install instructions

I have a similar issue. I’m new to wordpress and php and have done a site for friends. We used a commercial theme Dandelion and I suspect it’s not happy with the widget.

I suspect this is NOT how the widget should look. Advice?

@jbculpepper I don’t see a problem with that, so you’ll need to elaborate.

Sorry, check it now. What you saw 8 minutes ago was another plug-in that wasn’t working much better. Reinstalling your plug-in highlights the issue. Essentially it’s pushing out to the side of the frame (the box isn’t sizing correctly). What you saw was essentially what I get with your plug in as well when I turn off all formatting. The subscribe button isn’t a button, the fields extend beyond the frame so there is no box around the data fields. I reactivated your plug-in so you could see what I’m talking about.

By the way, I appreciate your help

Turn off the “custom styling” option in the plugin settings. If that doesn’t look ok, you’ll need to style the form yourself to match what you want.

When I turn it off, I get the same results without the colors (box not fully fitting in the sidebar). If I customize the css then I’m afraid it will not live thru a theme upgrade but if I tried to modify your plug (likely beyond my skills) it too wouldn’t live beyond an update.

Are there any plans to give user more control on sizing of this element?

Is there a way to modify the size for force the size by %?

The root issue there is that your Theme is defining the styles that are being applied to that, which is always going to be an occasional issue. In other words, even if I let you define something, your theme might still manage to override it.

The best thing to do is add css to something that won’t change between upgrades. That’s not something I can walk you through, though.
