NextGen gallery pages, albums

I am struggling with NextGen Gallery.
I am trying to create a page with 3 Galleries.
I understand that Albums hold Galleries which hold images.
I don’t understand the page options, i.e. I have created a unique landing page to show each of the 3 galleries, but in my theme (Genesis/Prose) I can only get to these unique pages via the drop down fancy menu at the top of the page. If I select the gallery from the thumbnail or link on the main “Portfolio” page, it goes to another page, still showing the images but without my custom info. In the gallery and album options, I connected each gallery and album with the unique page I created. Then trouble-shooting later I removed these connections. I don’t understand how these options function. What does the “create page” option mean? I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the plug-in. The list of pages within the plug-ins page-link options contains many more pages, perhaps ghosts of pages I created before re-installing. I have created unique names for the “real” pages so I know I’m linking up to the right place.
