GPL allows this but its very unethical

  • I’ve been using ACF for as far as I can remember and I love the support they are giving me.

    Not fan of this, basically taking advantage of the hard work of others. Very unethical behavior. This shows they can do it to anyone. This is very alarming to every plugin developers.

  • no, GPL allows for forking a plugin. This is overtaking their existing url, user base, download and review history, etc. and locking them out of the plugin repository. That’s technically allowed in the WP TOS, but only under certain conditions, not under false pretenses.
