If anyone could shed some light on woocommerce extensions and how they differ from traditional plugins, I’m looking to buy the following extension

    https://woocommerce.com/products/aweber-newsletter-subscription/

I’m getting prompted to connect my store to woocommerce.com which is a little puzzling, is this necessary? Can I not use an extension as a stand-alone entity, I would prefer to keep my store functioning on its own and not be reliant on much more than my hosting company and my email marketing provider

    Hi @mohobook,

    Thank you for reaching out.

WooCommerce extensions are essentially plugins, but they are specifically designed to add features and functionality to your WooCommerce store. Traditional plugins can be used on any WordPress site, while WooCommerce extensions are specific to WooCommerce.

Regarding the AWeber Newsletter Subscription extension, it requires connection to WooCommerce.com for updates and support. This is necessary to ensure that the extension remains compatible with ongoing WooCommerce updates, and to provide you with prompt customer support.

However, rest assured that connecting your store to WooCommerce.com doesn’t mean your store becomes reliant on WooCommerce.com. Your store will still function independently. The connection is mainly for support and updates, not for the day-to-day running of your store.

I hope this clarifies your concerns.

    Hello,

It would be nice if these woocommerce extensions functioned like traditional paid “plugins” but if you say it’s similar and safe, and it’s not going to crush performance, I will proceed

Well, I would like to proceed, but I’ve already run into technical problems creating a woocommerce.com account (which is not making me feel very confident)

Apparently, it’s not simply a matter of a woocommerce.com account, you also need a wordpress.com account, but I can’t finish the creation of either because I need to verify my email, and the instructions do not match what I’m seeing

In the screenshot below, the instructions talk about an avatar and links that do not exist in my wordpress.com account, how am I suppose to go any further?

The other point of confusion is that during the creation of the woocommerce.com and wordpress.com accounts, I had no opportunity to set a password

    Hi again @mohobook,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble setting up your WooCommerce and WordPress.com accounts. Let’s try to resolve this together.

Firstly, the WooCommerce extensions work in a similar fashion to traditional paid plugins, and they are designed to not impact your site’s performance adversely. They are safe to use and are regularly updated for compatibility and security.

Apparently, it’s not simply a matter of a woocommerce.com account, you also need a wordpress.com account,

You need both a WooCommerce.com and WordPress.com account for added security and ease of use.

Now, about the email verification, it seems like there might be some confusion with the instructions. The avatar and links mentioned in the instructions should be visible once you’re logged into your WordPress.com account. If you’re not seeing these, it might be due to an incomplete account setup.

When you sign up for a WordPress.com account, an email is sent to you with a link to set your password. If you haven’t received this email, please check your spam/junk folder.

Once you’ve set your password and logged in, you should be able to see the avatar and links mentioned in the instructions. If you’re still having trouble, please let us know so that we can assist you further.

    Hello,

When I created the accounts, I received an email from Woocommerce.com to validate my email, which I did, but I did not receive an email from WordPress.com, nor did I have an opportunity to set a password

The routine created both accounts, I am logged into WordPress.com (cookies I guess) but there is nothing in there as far as avatars or links, I’m stuck with a partially created account

    Hi @mohobook ,

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

To shed more light about the situation, when you validate your email for WooCommerce.com, it also validates it for WordPress.com since the accounts are linked. The “Resend email” prompt in your screenshot just shows the instructions to resend the validation email if needed. In short, re-sending the validation email is done via WordPress.com.

If you need to change your WordPress.com password, you can visit this link and follow the steps to get a new one.

Going back to the initial topic, I understand that you’re interested in purchasing AWeber for WooCommerce extension which integrates your online store with AWeber, an email marketing service. This means you can easily send emails to your customers, like newsletters, product updates, or promotions, right from your WooCommerce store.

You can go ahead and try installing it from this link now that you have a validated WooCommerce.com account. Let us know if you have any questions or encounter any difficulties through the process.

    Hello,

I was able to reset my password, which is half of the problem solved

But when I login to woocommerce.com, it still says I need to verify my email to finish activating my account, see below

    https://pasteboard.co/CiJjenxdRkud.png

When I click on resend, it open a dialogue saying I need to log into wordpress.com, go to my avatar, and click on resend, but I cannot find this link anywhere

Please look at the image below and tell me where this link is hiding?

    Hey @mohobook ,

Hmm, can you click on “Account Settings” menu item, and see if there is an option on that page to resend the email (under Email address)?

If not, since this issue is account related, I think we’ll need to take a closer look at this internally to help you get this sorted. Can you please contact us at?Woo.com > My Account > Support.

Please include a link to this forum thread, so that we can keep track of what’s already been done. We’ll be able to help you further there.

    Cheers!
