Hello, I did a big mistake and deleted the plugin from my site. I’ve reinstalled it and now the Total Views on the Posts page is stuck at 1 and it doesn’t update.

The Views count is updating and I see something like 1/210 (the latter number is the unique visits and it’s working). Today’s View column also works and it updates as expected.

It’s just the Total Views that is not working and it’s stuck at 1 only for new posts published after reinstalling the plugin.

I could just stick with the Views column, but I’m afraid something is wrong with my install or maybe it needs more time to adjust? I have tried switching between REST API and Query based trackers, but there’s no change to the Total Views on posts.

Could you please take a look? Thank you!

Edit: I have even disabled the caching plugin (Jetpack Boost). Also, I’ve now disabled the Overall count since I’m more interested in popular posts over the last few days/week rather than from the begining of time ??

I am wondering if something went wrong with the total table. You could try to redo them in the Tools page under Recreate tables. But please backup your database before making any changes.

Also worth double checking that you don’t have the overall tracker disabled in the Settings page.

@ajay thank you for your reply. The “Overall” option was enabled and it stayed enabled when I reinstalled the plugin. However, I have now disable it. So, the Total Views count depends exclusively on the “Overall” option being enabled?

that’s right on total views. They get pulled from the overall table populated from the overall tracker. If you don’t need a popular over time you can just disable it.

Ok, I understand, Thank you. I won’t use the Overall option because I prefer showing popular posts over 7 days rather than since the beginning of time ??

However, the issue isn’t resolved with the Total Views option. Even if I enable the “Overall” option, the count is stuck at 1 on new posts since reinstalling the plugin, while previous posts are stuck at the number of views before uninstalling the plugin. So no new views have been added to any post.

What will happen exaclty if I recreate the tables in the database? Also, I have a backup of the top_ten table of 145MB containing millions of entries. I tried importing it but it failed.

Maybe I should reinstall the plugin again?

Wow. That is huge. How big is your site if you don’t mind me asking?

What recreate does is dump the counts into a temporary table and then it deletes and recreates the tables and then imports the counts again.

The database backup is needed given how big your table is. The process might take a lot of time run from the browser.

One thing worth trying before it’s the recreate primary index. I’m on the road right now so can’t check the debug output of your site until next weekend.

If your site is very huge, do consider the pro version, particularly as it helps tracking.

@ajay I have a little over 3000 posts on the site, I don’t think it’s that big ?? But I’m using Top 10 since March 2021 and never did any maintenance on it… so I guess that’s why is that big.

I’ve looked again in the database backup and I have a backup of both tables (top_ten and top_ten_daily) in a single SQL file. The top_ten table has a few entries, while the top_ten_daily table has millions of entries dating from March 2021. I made the backup before uninstalling the plugin.

Let me know when you will be able to take a look at the debug log. Thank you and have a good trip!

Ah! Then it is likely the daily table that is consuming that space. If you have the backup then it’s safe to try the Tools page options. If you’ve backed it up directly from mysql then you can restore it directly as well if any issues.

suggest you backup the tables any way from the Import Export menu

@ajay I did nothing since we last talk. The Today’s View column in Posts continues to record views from the beginning of the reinstallation. That being said, the views aren’t reset at midnight or the next day, which is fine with me ?? The widget works well, I can’t complain there.

The Total Views is still stuck at 1 for all new posts, but I don’t care if Today’s View shows what I want to see. Thanks again for your time and support and for creating this great plugin!

    Cheers.
