The following url: https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/rss/all.xml is a valid rss feed as per https://www.rssboard.org. However, when entered into Feedzy it returns the following error message: WP HTTP Error: Missing header/body separator. But when I enter the same url into my Opera browser it works perfectly. Upon investigation it appears that Opera has built in RSS functionality. So my question is, why does that feed url display perfectly in Opera but not in feedzy? Any help/ideas/suggestions will be most welcome.

  • Hi @will48,

Thanks for using Feedzy and for reaching out to us!

It looks like the issue with the feed is due to invalid XML formatting. While the feed can open in a browser, the RSS parser used by WordPress (SimplePie) is much stricter and has detected invalid characters or an incomplete XML structure in the feed. You can see this result here https://simplepie.org/demo/?feed=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cosmopolitan.com%2Fuk%2Frss%2Fall.xml

This is likely why the feed is being flagged as invalid during the import process. You can try contacting the owner to see if they can help.

Let me know if you need any further assistance!

    Best regards,

Hi Mara, thanks for your reply. I appreciate your point about the parser in WordPress, however I have installed WP RSS Aggregator and that has no problem with the above mention feed url. Could it be that that problem is with Feedzy and perhaps its lack of tolerance for invalid characters. If WP RSS Agregator can display the feed then so should Feedzy. Are you connected with Themeisle? Perhaps you could request a review of the plugin.

    Hi there,

For Feedzy to be able use a feed, it needs to pass the General requirements from here: https://docs.themeisle.com/article/1155-feedzy-troubleshooting-guide

    Kind regards!

    Hi Rodicaelena,

Thanks for your reply. As a test I also have the WP RSS Aggregator plugin installed. Now this feed url: https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/rss/love-sex not only passes the WC3 test:

But it also displays very well in WP RSS Aggregator. The question is why it displays in WP RSS and not in Feedzy. The answer I think lies the the tolerance of WP RSS for incomplete data and the lack of in Feedzy. I think also the time given by Feedzy to complete the data transfer before returning an error. It could be that WP RSS allows a little more time, and therefore retrieves sufficient data to display a feed.

I believe it would be advisable to check the relevant code in the WP RSS plugin in order to discover the reason and update the feedzy plugin.

    Thanks

    Hi Rodicaelena,

Thanks for your reply. I do hope the dev team manage to upgrade the plugin, because in every other respect it is far superior to WP RSS Aggregator.
