I haven’t had time to upgrade to version 3 yet because of all the customizations on my blog, so I don’t know if this problem is particular to it.

I go to edit a page, highlight some text, and hit the strikethrough button at the top of the wysiwyg editor. This appears to work fine, but when I hit the “update page” button and go look at the post, the strikethrough is gone.

I went into options to see if I had it checking for invalid XHTML, but it doesn’t seem to be checking for that. Has anyone else heard of this problem before?

  • has it been a problem all along? Or something you just noticed?

Is it defined in your theme’s style.css?

I had a theme where strikethrough didn’t work, the theme designer had messed it up

I thought of that initially because I had the same issue with blockquote, but when I use web dev tools to check the HTML the strikethrough code isn’t even there.

Obviously the ones that have end dates are supposed to be struck out.

you can try with twentyten theme (or default theme if you are pre 3.0) to see if its a theme issue. As well as testing with all plugins inactive. Those 2 are always the first step

This just in – it works when I switch it to HTML and use “del” instead of using the WYSIWYG’s strikethrough. Why don’t they work the same?

It’s not a theme for sure. The strikethrough gets lost when I switch back and forth from the WYSIWYG to HTML. It’s getting lost in between. I don’t think I have any plugins that modify the editor.

maybe an issue with your editor? it seems when I use the wysiwyg editor, i get an inline style applied (I’ve never used it before) but it sticks on my end

I guess I’ll just have to find time to update wordpress and hope the editor gets updated with it. Thanks!

I’ve been having the same problem, strikethroughs just default back to normal when I update the post. Bold and italics are fine.

Like Calophi, mine work okay when I do it in HTML mode, but unlike his, mine seem to stay struck through even when I switch back and forth between HTML and WYSIWYG.

I updated my WordPress and all plugins, and my theme is up to date.

    NOT RESOLVED in 3.0.3

Using the srikethru button, or inserting <s> tags directly, does not work. Strikethru button in visual mode simply does not save. Using tags, the tags get lost after a switch or two between Visual and HTML. My guess is that Visual is losing them. In any case, the tags do not show up in the HTML tab the next time you look.

    Thanks,

I can confirm this is still broken in 3.0.4. I can workaround it by adding <strike> tags in the HTML view. WYSIWYG view kills them on the next save though.

broken for me as well. Hopefully I don’t have to post any sarcastic posts that make use of the strike-through.

Glad you are all having the same problem, you know what I mean. I have been going around with this for a day trying to get it to stick. Today, I made the strike through stick. After checking my post for any other problems, I went in to the HTML, added the code and hit publish. It made it. Not the optimum solution, but a last resort.

I don’t get why they would remove this feature. It’s pretty useful. I hope they correct this. I’ve noticed it not working for a few versions now.

I noticed that it works in Firefox, but not Chrome. My WordPress is updated to the latest version (3.1).
