After a bad update of my site theme, I restored the site from a recent backup. After a recent bulk Smush process, Smush tells me that it cannot find 1191 thumbnails of my 2079 total!!!!

I have lots of website backups. Where can I find those missing thumbnails? They are all I have to restore those 1200 pictures!!! I was unaware of the need to back up my originals when I started using Smush ?? so I cannot hit the RESTORE button.

THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE! YEARS OF WORK GONE! PLEASE HELP ME RECOVER THOSE FILES.

I am sure you can help me. Thanks for helping to rescue the main worksite I have worked on for nine years!

    Blessings,

    Bob Fox

  • Hi @bobfox47

Hope this message finds you well, and sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue.

Smush does not generate thumbnails, Smush will optimize them.

Thumbnails will be generated from the original image when uploaded and they might have different sizes which are defined for different plugins or the theme.

Smus >> Bulk Smush >> Original Images will optimize original images, enabling the Backup option is just in case the originals optimization might affect the quality. Bulk Restore will use the original image backups to restore your images and thumbnails to their original unoptimized state, it will not restore if they have been deleted.

Question is, are you seeing the originals in the site Media library? If so you can use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to regenerate them.

Once they have been regenerated, you should be able to optimize them with Smush.

    Let us know the results.

    Best regards,
    Laura

Thanks for checking. I got the pictures back after a restore of the Uploads file from a past backup. My server had a series of issues that could have been related to a hack of the site. It is OK now.

    Thanks for being there!

    Bob
