New Password Notification Only Goes To Me, Not Site Designer?

  • After the website designer finished designing my site, including the integrated WordPress blog, I changed the password on the WordPress blog sign-in page, as he suggested I do.

    Upon changing the password, the new one doesn’t go to the designer, does it? He just told me to change the password from something simple that he set it at initially to what I wanted after he completed the site. I’m assuming he didn’t get an e-mail notification of my password change/the new password? It only shows my name/e-mail in the WordPress Admin section, so am I correct in assuming he won’t see my new password?

    As long as your email address, not the designer’s, was on your user profile, you’re the only one who got the notice.

    Also, you listed your WordPress version as 2.8.6. I hope that isn’t true, because that would mean that your designer set you up with a version of WordPress that’s over a year old and full of publicly known security vulnerabilities.

    You can confirm your version number by checking the bottom-right corner of your Dashboard.

    The current secure version is 3.0.2.

    Thanks so much for your response.

    Uh, yeah, that is true about 2.8.6.

    There’s an “upgrade now to 3.0.2” link I see on my blog, but I’m concerned about messing up my settings and existing content if I upgrade.

    Is the upgrade process painless/seamless and is there any risk of a mishap, such as losing existing blog posts?

    Yes, the upgrade process is quick, painless, and seamless.

    Just in case, you might want to backup your files and database.
