    Hi there,

I am having an odd issue with a contact form where we are using the v2 checkbox reCAPTCHA – it has at some point stopped working but only when not logged in, it works absolutely fine when I am logged in as an admin.

It was always working fine, then perhaps an update or something similar at some point I figured must be why it has stopped working – the code loading on the page in the page source, including the recaptcha script appears to be the same too. I’d originally thought it was the keys which I’ve switched out for new but this didn’t help, same scenario.

There are 2 or 3 plugins on there relating to lazy loading media/videos which I also thought might be conflicting, I’ve tested deactivating those along with the Cloudflare plugin which are, as far as I can tell, are the only likely culprits but to no avail either. Otherwise there is no caching plugin installed so I am a bit stumped!

    Thanks,
    Jon

I can’t seem to be able to edit the original post – I want to change the URL slug for the page to a duplicate I’ve made for testing to /help/contact-us-recaptcha-troubleshooting-version/ as I’ve removed the reCAPTCHA field from the original so visitors are able to submit without getting the validation error.

    Hello,

We have looked at your troubleshooting page and don’t see any issues. We didn’t run into any validation issues when running a test submission. You maybe could lower the Security Preferences on the keys API settings.

If you’re able to replicate the issue, please reply back to this email with instructions and we can investigate further. Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Can I just check you tested on the URL in my reply above rather than in the original post as it wouldn’t let me edit it /help/contact-us-recaptcha-troubleshooting-version/?

If it was the link from the original post then it won’t have any validation errors because I’ve turned reCAPTCHA off and cloned the form onto another page to troubleshoot the error with – you should see the below message and no reCaptcha box appearing, screenshot below:

I’ve tested lowering the security settings just in case but that has had no bearing, the actual reCAPTCHA box is still only appearing when logged into the backend and not in incognito mode for example in a non-logged in state.

Could this be some kind of localized caching going on?

We see the ReCaptcha in an Incognito (Private Browsing Window) in all 3 browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) using the provided troubleshooting URL: /help/contact-us-recaptcha-troubleshooting-version/

    Hi there,

Thanks for the reply – I think I’ve been able to fix this finally, I thought caching might’ve been a factor anyway given that it was appearing in admin and not whilst logged out. The only other caching I know the site has I’d already cleared so I got the hosting company to add the URL as a cache exclusion just in case.

It does actually appear what fixed it was changing the reCaptcha source from google.com to recaptcha.net (I am certain I’d already tried that so maybe it was a combination of both).
