Email sent to processed order

Hi,
We are experiencing an issue with your plugin. In our shop, we have a custom payment gateway that allows shoppers to submit their order as a quote request. The order is created, then a custom order status named Awaiting quote is applied. One of the employees then evaluates the quote, and sends an email to the customer along with a link to complete the payment. The order status is then changed to Awaiting Payment.
The problem is, even though I checked the Awaiting Quote in the Exclude email sending For option, customers are still getting the reminder email if that status is left as is for more than a day. Is there something I’m not understanding about this option? I would expect an order with an excluded status to not send the reminder email.
