    Hello,

I have a problem with my checkout since around 3 months. The problem is that the field “state” is mandatory though it appears as optional. My shop is based in Germany and it isn’t used in Germany to have this field, let alone having it as mandatory.?

I have lost several sales because of this issue. I have disable all the plugins and the problem persists. I tried using a checkout editor plugin to remove the field and although the field didn’t appear anymore on my checkout it was still mandatory and no sales went through because it was a mandatory field. I have talked with several German woocommerce shop owners and nobody has this same issue so I am confident it isn’t a general woocommerce issue.?

I have also contacted Astra Pro (my theme) who checked and changed the theme and confirmed the problem comes from woocommerce directly.

I have also tried using PHP to make the field optional but it doesn’t work. I really need to fix it but I don’t know what else to do.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @isabel1985 it’s hard for us to assess because you have the state hidden right now. When I unhide it it is set to optional. So makes me wonder if you have cache settings on that page. Cache needs to be invalid on Cart and Checkout pages all together. So please make sure they’re excluded.

In both shortcode and block Checkout, the germany state field is made optional. It could be that a payment method might be setting is required? It shows up as optional on your website.

Hey there, @isabel1985! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

As @serafinnyc mentioned, this can be a caching issue.

If you use any caching plugins, please check this documentation on how to set it up to avoid issues.

To confirm, have you tried with the Cash On Delivery option to see if the issue persists?

Can you please also share the System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support so we can take a look?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!
