[Plugin: Greg's High Performance SEO] Switching from other SEO plugins

    When you say this plugin offers “support for titles and keywords left behind by alternative SEO and other legacy plugins”, what exactly is meant by “left behind”? In other words, Let’s say I have AIOSEO pack and want to switch to Greg’s HPSEO. Do I deactivate AIO first, and Greg’s will pick up what’s left behind? Or should I activate Greg’s first and the info will somehow transfer?

    Hi Mike,

    The plugin will read the data left behind in the WordPress database by several other plugins (whether or not those plugins are active at the time). The instructions tab of the plugin mentions:

    Greg’s High Performance SEO can automatically detect and use information on keywords, titles, meta description and more from legacy and alternative SEO plugins such as Autometa, All in One SEO, HeadSpace, wpSEO etc.

    OK, cool. What about if I have a theme with built-in SEO (Headway, in my case). I’m switching to a theme that doesn’t have built-in SEO, so I need a plugin like yours. Will your plugin read the data left behind by Headway?

    Hi Mike,

    The short answer is ‘no’.

    I’m afraid I don’t have the resources to buy a copy of each commercial theme out there (or even all the free themes out there!), reverse engineer their data storage schemes, and tweak the plugin to extract them. Some commercial theme coders (and I have no idea whether this might include yours) are actually pretty averse to anyone trying to do that, since the absence of migration support makes it easier to keep their customers locked into using their theme. With luck, though, maybe your theme supplier is one of those which provides migration support in the form of an export from their proprietary storage scheme to a form compatible with one of the major SEO plugins.
