Site and Backend Slowed to a Crawl Overnight
-
My site has never been lightning-speed, but it’s perfectly usuable. However for the past 4-5 days I’ve been unable to accomplish anything in the backend because it takes several minutes to load, and if I do get the editor to load, it takes forever to do anything. (Example: I was writing a post and wanted to turn a word into a link, and it took a full minute to bring up the box with the dropdown list.)
The public site is just as bad. It takes several minutes for pages to load, if they load at all. It’s basically unusable right now, which is challenging because I have some things I need to post by specific dates but am currently unable to post them without it taking all day. I’m afraid people won’t be able to access the posts, either, if the pages take an eternity to load.
I haven’t made any big changes recently—no new themes, plugins, etc. The only plugin I’ve updated in the past week was a Google update (I think Analytics? I tried to check the name, but can’t get the plugin page to load in the backend.)
This isn’t a general page speed problem related to resizing images, etc. (I know I have more work to do there, but the site worked well enough a few days ago.) I don’t think it’s my internet, as all other sites load fine. Is it hosting-related? Again, it worked fine until a few days ago.I’m at a loss as to how to get speed back to where it was at the beginning of the week, at least so it’s fast enough to access the backend. I thought it was a temporary glitch, but now I’m not so sure.
Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated.
