Hi, I’m looking for help on a similar issue. I’ve been using Seriously Simple Podcasting for eight years to publish a weekly podcast. (The website is https://wbcommunity.org. The podcast feed is https://wbcommunity.org/feed/podcast.) I’ve had no issues to speak of until recently. For whatever reason, the latest episode is not available on Apple, but it is available on Spotify, Amazon, Pandora, etc.

I contacted Apple, and this is the response I received. (See below, after I sign off.) I have no idea how to fix this. They refer to a URL (https://wbcommunity.org/podcast-download/3043/words.1), but I have no idea what this is. I’ve never seen it before. Anyway, I need help.

    Thanks, Brian Watson.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for contacting us about your show, West Bridgewater Community Church:

    https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/west-bridgewater-community-church/id1129033844

We identified an issue when attempting to validate your RSS feed URL:

FATAL: This server is not sending a non-compressed version of the RSS feed on request. This is required by some services to index your feed. Did not finish feed tests.

Support for HTTP HEAD requests – The server for your episodes must support “HTTP HEAD requests”, which is a fancy way of saying that Apple Podcasts must be able to get information about your files without downloading them whole. Unexpected HTTP code: 302

    – Do episode links have file extensions?

Apple Podcasts needs episode enclosure URLs to have valid file extensions, even thought that’s not techically neccessary.

The url https://wbcommunity.org/podcast-download/3043/words.1 has an invalid file extension. Valid extensions are .mp3, .mp4, .m4a, .m4v.

Be sure to test your podcast and validate your RSS feed before you submit it, and periodically after you submit a show if there is an issue.

Concerning the first error, this was generated on the Cast Feed Validator. The other errors were generated on the Podba.se

Apple recommends using Podba.se or Cast Feed Validator to validate your feed.

Review A podcaster’s guide to RSS for more information about RSS tags.

As for the reference to HTTP HEAD requests, Certain episodes within your feed do not have byte-range requests enabled which prevents your podcast from being streamed through iTunes.

To enable streaming playback of your episodes, ensure your hosting server allows HTTP HEAD requests and has byte-range requests enabled.

More information about podcast feed and image requirements can be found in the Podcasts Connect Help guide

If you have any questions about how to update your RSS feed, please contact your host service provider.

Apple routinely checks podcast RSS feeds to detect new episodes and other metadata or artwork changes. These changes appear on Apple Podcasts within 24 hours of detecting them.

The show information page in Apple Podcasts Connect shows the time and date that each show was last refreshed.

If you’ve taken these steps, and it’s been more than 24 hours since your podcast was last refreshed, click the Refresh button to initiate an update.

If your changes still don’t show in Apple Podcasts Connect, reply with the following:

    • Apple Podcasts Show ID or direct link
    • Podcast RSS feed URL
    • Missing update
    • Image specifications
    • Last update time and date

After we receive the requested information, we’ll investigate further.

I have had this problem for months, and it hasn’t been resolved, despite the fact that I have contacted Apple support multiple times and have done everything I can to fix errors on my end. I would appreciate a personalized response written in plain English, without confusing technical jargon.

Here is the problem: episodes of my podcast do not appear when I upload them. I don’t mean they don’t appear immediately. I don’t expect that. I mean that they often don’t appear for weeks. Sometimes they appear after a week or two. Currently, the last five episodes, recorded over the last month, do not appear on Apple podcats. They do appear on other podcasting apps, like Spotify. I never have a problem with other podcasting apps. Only Apple. I fixed the erorr above. I have tried refreshing the podcast on Apple Podcast Connect. I have tried testing the podcast feed on Podbase, and that doesn’t show any errors. I have tried to valide the podcast feed on Cast Feed Validator and get a fatal error message, which says, “This server is not sending a non-compressed version of the RSS feed on request. This is required by some services to index your feed. Did not finish feed tests.” I don’t know what that means.
