• we have a word press blog and about a week ago the site started to move extremely slow. Not the visual front end but the back-end of Word press. So we called our host and asked them to check the hosting account. They told us it wasn’t the host because if it was the site would be loading slow on the front end as well which it isn’t. So they gave us a few quick things to try- remove pluggins that we are not using, make sure WP-Super cache is running and upgrade to the newest wordpress.

My wife did all the above and then the real issues started- first the custom permalink structure that a programmer helped us to setup went away and now the pages don’t all link together and we cannot figure out how to get the structure back or how to make the pages all see each other. Second- it is taking 4+ minutes to move from page to page within the back-end of WordPress and sometimes we cannot get in at all (like right now).

We really need help and I cant tell if we were hacked or if something funky just happened. Please help!!! Anything help at all would be great- i don’t know how to fix this and my wife is losing it! Thanks in advance to the board for your help!

  • Deactivate all plugins and see if there is a difference. If you can’t do that via the WP admin panel, use FTP to rename the plugins folder to force them all to deactivate.

If there is a difference, then it’s a plugin problem, and reactivate one by one to find it.

Replace the wp-admin aad wp-includes folders with copies from a fresh download.

And: have you tried accessing admin via a different PC?
