    Suppose I’m editing the post myblog.com/post1 and I insert a media called “IMAGE” to this post.

    WP will generate a “subpost” myblog.com/post1/image with a thumbnail of the image (or icon to the pdf if it’s a pdf file) and a link to the actual media.

    Is there a way to avoid having the intermediate post? Or to that matter, a way to avoid indexing this single page?

    When inserting an image, ensure that you chose File Url for the Link.
