• Ive spent a couple of weeks setting up a wordpress site. Got pretty close to completion, then last night I installed another theme. I activated the theme, had a look at some pages, then went to bed.

    Tomorrow I went to my URL to have a look at the site, and all I can see is this:

    Index of /

    * cgi-bin/
    * license.txt
    * readme.html
    * wp-activate.php
    * wp-admin/
    * wp-app.php
    * wp-atom.php
    * wp-blog-header.php
    * wp-comments-post.php
    * wp-commentsrss2.php
    * wp-config-sample.php
    * wp-config.php
    * wp-content/
    * wp-cron.php
    * wp-feed.php
    * wp-includes/
    * wp-links-opml.php
    * wp-load.php
    * wp-login.php
    * wp-mail.php
    * wp-pass.php
    * wp-rdf.php
    * wp-register.php
    * wp-rss.php
    * wp-rss2.php
    * wp-settings.php
    * wp-signup.php
    * wp-trackback.php
    * xmlrpc.php

    When I log in to wordpress and try to view a page, I get:

    Not Found

    The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Can someone help?

    No idea what happened. The site was working fine last night. Don’t understand why its dead. How can I get it running again?

    Yoru index.php is missing. Go download a copy of WordPress, get the index.php file, and upload it.

    Also? Don’t bump.

    Phew!. I think that fixed it. THANKYOU.

    Any idea how that could have occurred? I wasn’t using an FTP client last night so Im still at a loss as to what caused the fault. The site is for my business so I can’t afford to have it down like this once it goes live.

    Anyone have suggestions on the best option for automated backup so this can’t happen again?

    Check with your webhost, but basically, someone had to have deleted a file. So … either it was an accident by someone with SSH/FTP access, or something less cheerful to think about. :/
