    Hi,

I’m just a beginner. When I try to deactivate WF in the plugin board I got the following message:

“An unexpected error occurred while attempting to configure Wordfence to delete its data on deactivation.”

I would like to deactivate and delete the WF plugin.

Please help me with this issue.

    Than you!

    Hi @rolandnagy,

I’m sorry that you’re seeing an error when deactivating Wordfence. There may be a conflict with another plugin. Please try deactivating Wordfence when all other plugins are deactivated.

If the error continues, please create a full site and database backup, and then try manually disabling Wordfence and use?Wordfence Assistant?to delete any remaining tables and data using the option Remove all Wordfence Data in the Database and elsewhere.? You can read more on manually disabling Wordfence at?https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/#remove-or-reset

    Thanks,
    Margaret

    Hi Margaret,

Fatal error: Failed opening required ‘/data/2/0/2035fa0c-4892-4f98-a4b3-cd86cbfac2aa/kahu.hu/web/wordfence-waf.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/php’) in Unknown on line 0

I followed the steps outlined here.

    Manual removal

To manually remove Wordfence, you can follow the steps below. It is important that you do step 1 before the other steps.

    1. Remove extended protection manually. Click here to learn more.
    2. Remove the “wordfence” plugin directory located in the “wp-content/plugins” directory.
    3. Remove the “wflogs” directory located in the “wp-content” directory.
    4. Remove the “wordfence-waf.php” file located in the root directory where your WordPress installation exists.
    5. Remove all Wordfence database tables from the database, using for example “phpMyAdmin”.

I could not execute the 5. point and as of now I can’t even open the website admin page as I got the following message.

Fatal error: Failed opening required ‘/data/2/0/2035fa0c-4892-4f98-a4b3-cd86cbfac2aa/kahu.hu/web/wordfence-waf.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/php’) in Unknown on line 0

Pls could you direct me to the right dierection?

    Thank you!

    Hi @rolandnagy,

The file it’s failing to open is used by the auto_prepend_file for the firewall optimization. This means the extended protection wasn’t fully removed.

You’ll need to remove the auto_prepend_file from the .htaccess, .user.ini, and/or php.ini. Wordfence surrounds its code with comments “Wordfence WAF” and “END Wordfence WAF” in the files it modifies. You can remove the code between these comments in these files. We have detailed information on removing it manually here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/optimizing-the-firewall/#removing-the-optimization

If you need assistance updating those files, your host can likely help as well. Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Thanks,
    Margaret
