Single Events page not using our custom template

Hello good day!
We have a used a custom template for the single events page on our client’s website. However after the update to 6.5, it looks like the Events Template setting in the backend is not now working. We need to revert to an older version to make the setting work. Any ideas why it’s not working on the new version?
