Ok I’m having trouble with wordpress again, I was able to get in installed (had to do it manually) to my godaddy hosted account. I’m having trouble when I try to upload a .zip theme that I downloaded from this site. Tried doing it with another theme, and tried uploading and impage and didn’t work. I’m getting this: The uploaded file could not be moved to D:\Hosting\7013693\html/wp-content/uploads. I’ve searched for over a day now all over google, different keywords, more specific keywords, I’ve found probably over 10 solutions here on the internet and none of them are working for me. Most common one is changing file permissions. I’m at a point now where I’m just ready to give up, so much for blogging with wordpress X[. I don’t think that giving someone my information to login to my wp-admin and try to fix it for me but I dont’ know what else to do. So if anyone here is willing to maybe help me out with this send me an email at [email protected] and I will give you my login and password for my wordpress dashboard plus the url. Thanks

by the way my wordpress dashboard login and password is totally different than my godaddy hosting login information, so just incase someone locks me out of my own wordpress dashboard, I’ll just swipe it all off my server and start over AGAIN. So only people really wanting to help me send me a message.

Is this a window server or linux as Go Daddy offers both try moving to linux server see if that helps.

I am more familiar using a linux server and if you want I can help you if you click on my name and on my website you will see red online button click on that will bring in my flash conference room and I can work with you with desktop sharing I have so that you can see exactly what I am doing on your hosting account and learn.

I have once setup a website on Go Daddy server while back so it might take a little while getting around.

    Hi,

Just to add my 2c of setting up WP on GoDaddy Windows & Linux servers.

I first (stupidly) set-up my site on their Windows Server and had lots of problems.

There are issues with their file/folder permission system. This lead to plugins such as ‘Google XML Sitemaps’ not being able to automatically update the Sitemap, ‘All in One Webmaster’ not being able to (for some strange reason) update Google etc. of sitemap changes. Obviously I wasn’t able to chmod the files/folders as Windows doesn’t accept the command.

I changed over to Linux with them last week and once it was completed (it took a few hours of downtime) everything worked and I was able to set the permission as I wished.

If I was you, I’d wipe your database/directory (if you haven’t uploaded anything yet) change to a Linux hosting plan if you’re not on one, start a fresh and use the GoDaddy application install to setup WordPress for you (it takes about 45mins). I’ve never had any problems with that.

Ok thanks all and govpatel I will contact you if I need further more intense assistance thank you very much for offering your services and time for free > I will swipe everything from my root directory and database then I will switch to Linux server and start anew, If I run into the same problem as mentioned in my first post again I’ll let everyone, know. THANKS AGAIN!!

Hm, and by wipe my directory HF T I go to the ”my sql” under the ”databases” tab within the godaddy honsting control panel. Then I delete the existing databse in which mine is called ”hostname 5.0” or something like that. So I delete it, and then after switching to new server create a new database before or after installing wordpress again??

    Just to add…

When I switched to Linux with them the file permissions were set very strange. Once you’ve installed WP through their app install, chmod everything in your directory to 755 (some will argue with me about that!) through your FTP client.

This should eliminate any permission problems.

Sorry, you posted as I was writing that.

1st – Usings FTP client or GoDaddy file manager (in hosting control panel), wipe everything off your root directory.

2nd – Wipe the DB. Go to Hosting Control Panel | Databases | MySQL | Manage via PHP My Admin, then enter your user (the long db name from the previous page) and your password (if you don’t know this, you can change it from the previous page).

Once into PHP My Admin, you’ll most likely have 2 db’s on the left. Find the one with your WP_* tables in (will be named your user name). Check all and select drop and then ok.

3rd – Once both are empty, go back to your GoDaddy My Account page. Select ‘Products’ | Hosting, then click on the domain name NOT launch. Then click on edit account details at the top, select the plan drop-down menu and select the Linux equivalent to your plan (it should have price $0.00) next to it. Accept the changes and then wait for the hosting control panel for that domain (the launch button) to change from Pending Setup to running ok.

4th – Once running ok. Click on install WordPress on the right of your hosting control panel and follow the instructions. You can monitor the progress by refreshing your app manager page which you will end up on.

    Hope this helps.

Ok cool, thank you so much, I deleted my single database but not through the ”manage via php my admin” option woops :(….. it’s already in the process of changing servers, did I screw it up??

    HF T

    (@hftraders)

How did you delete the database?

    Thread Starter ReamesAutomatedSites

    (@reamesautomatedsites)

i went to Hosting Control Panel | Databases | MySQL then I saw a single database with the little pencil and X buttons to the right. I clicked the little X button untill it was done pending and completely removed, then went to stich hosting. now that is pending.

I went to Hosting Control Panel | Databases | MySQL
    insteand of
Hosting Control Panel | Databases | MySQL | manage via php my admin

    I wouldn’t worry.

When the migration has completed and your hosting control panel is back, check to see if you’ve got any database. What you’ve done there I think is delete you database instead of wiping it.

As I’ve never done this I don’t know what will happen. I’d imagine that one the switch has completed it will be as it was.

Don’t create one when it comes back online. Instead, make sure the one that was there is deleted, then go to my step 4. From my memory, GoDaddy will setup your DB for the WP install so just let it do that.

Make sure that your root directory is empty before doing that though.

Report back or speak to GoDaddy support if you’ve any issues, they’re normally pretty good.

Ok well I’m back now if there’s still anyone here, I have successfully migrated to linux server, got wordpress installed and I can acces my dashboard. I installed a theme from the built in search feature and it went through flawlessly instantly, horah problem solved! Ok well I’m just going to go on over and preview and maybe activate my new theme, wait oh no, now I’m get a ”403 Forbidden” page. It also tells me this:You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache Server at https://www.getmoneyquick.us Port 80

I have set permissions to 777 on every single file in my directory as you stated above HF T but not working, I tried applying the orginal theme back and I’m still getinng 403 forbidden page, so now I get to have even more problems with wordpress before getting my blog up, yay… my website is here

    HF T

    (@hftraders)

    Hi,

I said to set it at 755 not 777.

If you’re having further problems, I’d just pick up the phone to GoDaddy, they’re pretty good any you’ll get straight through to tech support. Without looking at your root/db/WP settings, it’s not easy to diagnose, but they’ll have a complete overview of it.

Right, I was able to get wordpress installed, up and running, was able to make posts, install my plugins including wp robot, installed a theme both from my hard drive and from the direct download there. I’m configuring all my affiliate info in my wp robot options now. Check out my site, nothing special at all but it’s working, I’m building on it, and I’ll be giving away free ebooks and stuff every week or so..!
