removing posts from main page in twentyten

Hello

Having spent a coupe of days in the forum and codex pages and I’m hoping someone can help as none of the solutions I’ve tried so far has helped.

I have a main page (“News”) with posts in a “news” category and two other pages with posts in two different categories (ie 3 pages with a category for each page.)

However my main page displays all the posts regardless of the category selected. Is there a way of removing these from the main page? Each page has it’s own template.

I don’t have a php background, so please explain in simple terms, and once again, I have already tried making sense of the Codex.
