    Hi –

I’ve downloaded a theme from the WP gallery (Dyna Blue from webdesignlessons.com) and I’ve just found that this version has bugs in it. According to the developer’s website, the version that can be downloaded from his website has the bugs fixed and so should replace the one I originally downloaded from WP.

But I’m not sure how to do that? I have downloaded the revised version from the developers site into a folder on my computer. I know that I need to use FTP to upload it to my database – but what exactly do I do?

    – Do I replace the current (old) Dyna Blue sub-folder in the Themes folder with folder of new files altogether?

    – And if I do that, will all the files be automatically replaced?

    – Or do I need to go through an installation process again?

    – If I do, where should I upload the files of the revised version to then?

    – And how to I know which one to choose in my Themes gallery because surely wouldn’t the revised theme have the same name as the old one??

Very confused and would really appreciate any help.

    Thank you.

    Yes

The new theme will replace the old one completely.

Thank you! I followed what you said and managed to replace the files no problem. The WP dashboard actually showed my “Current Theme” as ‘Dyna Blue 1.5’ instead of ‘Dyna Blue 1.1″ – so it recognised the change!

The only thing is – now the files have been replaced – something seems to have gone wrong with the navigation bar at the top! With the old version, my pages showed up in that black navigation bar across the top but now they’re all crammed in a list down the left side! (and all the subpages are showing too)

I haven’t touched any of the code at all so I don’t know why this has happened! Is this because of a problem in the new revised version of the files?
Or is this something that I can fix?

Aaaarrrrgggh – swapping the files was supposed to make things better, not worse!!

    Thank you again –

Your page is not loading in here. Did you try to create a menu in the backend?

You will need to have the WordPress verion 3.0.1 otherwise upgrade it. Just the upgrade itself might fix the problem. Don’t forget to backup your stuff before upgrading!

Once you done that go to Appearance > Menu. Just create a menu on the left top and save. Then add the pages you want (they are just under where you create the menu).

Organise your tabs anyway you want by drag them around.

    I hope it helps.

    Cheers.

Thanks for your reply! Oh dear – why won’t my page load now??!!

Would you mind trying again? https://www.bighoneydog.com

I am already on WP 3.0.1 actually – and I couldn’t understand why I would need to start creating menus ‘coz I didn’t have to before and the pages showed up fine in the navigation bar when I installed the theme the first time.

It is only since I’ve replaced the files in my theme with a newer version from the developer (which was supposed contain fixed bugs) – that suddenly my pages aren’t showing anymore. The black navigation bar is still there running across the top, under the header – but there are no links within it. Instead, all the pages are showing as a list of links stacked on top of each other on the left side, under the black bar. (Sorry – if you could see my page then you could see what I mean – don’t think I’m explaining it very well).

    Thanks again

Sorry, I just got back to my computer. Your page is loading now (probably it was a maintenance thing). Did you change the theme? It seems to be working.

The menu bit I recommended you is a new feature in WP 3.0, it could help if the dev of your theme updated the menu and forgot to make it fall back to the traditional way of doing menus. I am not familiar with the theme you are using, so I cannot give you further advice, I am afraid.

Just in case you didn’t do it yet: Did you test it in different browsers?

    Best of lucks.

Thanks! Actually, I gave up in the end coz it was just getting so messy – I’ve just decided to use another, simpler theme. That’s the one that you saw – I’m glad it loaded for you. It seems to have fixed a lot of the loading problems I’d been having with the site too.

Anyway, thank you so much again for your help!
