• This was a pain to configure due to brief documentation and the ambiguous labeling within the app. For example, under WordPress > Settings > TootPress > Plugin, “Account ID” should specify “Mastodon Account ID” (a long number) and “Page ID” is “WordPress Page ID” — the numerical ID of the WordPress page you must create for this app to work.

It would also be clearer if “Account ID” was moved up under the “Mastodon API” section of the configuration and if the “Plugin” section was renamed to “WordPress”.

I would share helpful links for finding your Mastodon Account ID and WordPress Page ID except that links aren’t allowed in reviews.

    Happy searching.

    Hello Todd.

Sorry that you had difficulties in setting up this plugin.

To be honest, I have put a lot of work into the documentation. For example, there is a step by step setup manual at the plugin page at www.remarpro.com.

Account ID is not related to the Mastodon API. That is why this setting is assigned to the Plugin Basic Settings Section. But in general, there is no right or wrong, but different perspectives how things can be structured.

By the way, there is need to search for the Account ID on the Mastodon instance. You can easily retrieve the Account ID via the TootPress plugin in the WordPress Backend (Tools/Toots).

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Best Regards

This is where software developers and end users have different expectations. Account ID may not be related to the Mastodon API, but it is related to Mastodon. When it’s unclear whether the required credential is from Mastodon or WordPress, it’s confusing to the end user.

I followed the numbered setup guide. It doesn’t mention that you can retrieve the Account ID via the TootPress Backend Tools. The user isn’t pointed to the Tools until it’s time to do a first run of the plugin.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve decided that I need something that makes posts rather than adds entries to a page.
