The tooltips used to appear on the product variation images. For some reason they have stopped working. They now only work if you choose the variation from the dropdown. How do tooltips work and is there any reason they would have stopped? I’ve tried disabling all the plugins (other than Woo Commerce) to see if that helped. Everything is up to date.

  • Hey there, @lcarruthers! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

Do you mind clarifying what you mean by tooltips?

What exactly should show on the product page that only shows if you choose the variation? Can you share a screenshot so we can take a look?

I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

Furthermore, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share with us the necessary information below for us to investigate the issue further:

System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support.
Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs. Then you can use the selector to search for Fatal Errors.
You could copy and paste your reply here or paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

Hello and thank you for your reply.

The images which are not showing the tooltips are these on the left: https://snipboard.io/sDZAOT.jpg

You do see the tooltip if you select the product variation first:

The tooltip is the text with ‘Barfield Liberty Jersey for Cancer Hat’.

That means the default Woocommerce tooltips are not working, only the ones powered by the theme. It’s impacting sales as people need to know the name of the fabric before they select the drop down.

    Hi @lcarruthers,

Thanks for sharing additional information. The team is already aware of this Title attribute not showing issue: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/30728

At the time being, we can’t give you an estimate for when the team will look into or fix the issue, as bug reports are prioritized based on a few criteria. Please subscribe to the GitHub issue if you’d like to receive updates.

However, please note that product image title will show on the full screen.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

    How do I fix that?

I am the person who reported this to Github 2.5 YEARS AGO, https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/30728. In the meantime, I have lost the client so the website I reference no longer uses WooCommerce. I even tried to draw more attention to it by opening https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/30837 but that was quickly closed.

WooCommerce has a few significant shortcomings. It would be nice if Automattic would take action on our feedback, NOW. This is the only logical eCommerce plugin we can use if we want an open-source WordPress store. Not only did I point out the the title attributes (tooltips) stopped working, and regardless of whether it was a Woo or theme issue the functionality matters to us. But I also noted what @lcarruthers points out, that since the thumbnail doesn’t force the related dropdown choice, it is important for the customer to know which thumbnail image they have chosen. Imagine being the customer and having to choose every dropdown choice to find the thumbnail of interest.

I have solved it for now with another plugin. However, it would be good if it worked as part of Woocommerce.

    Hey, @madriverweb!

First, thank you for taking the time to open the GitHub report and providing feedback. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and I want to assure you that our team takes all user input seriously. As mentioned on the GitHub report, this enhancement is already on our queue, but we are not able to provide a timeline as to when it will be ready.

We appreciate your suggestions and are always looking for ways to improve our products and services, and input from users like you is invaluable.

    Hey, @lcarruthers!

Great to hear that you were able to solve this with another plugin. I understand it would be better to have this as Woo Core option, and as I mentioned above, this feature is already on our queue, but in the meantime, I hope the third-party plugin can fit your needs.

I’ll close this thread now, okay?

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

@lcarruthers can you share the plugin you found to solve the problem?

    Thread Starter lcarruthers

    (@lcarruthers)

@madriverweb – yes it was ‘WordPress Tooltips’ from https://tooltips.org/. Just installing it and doing nothing else fixed the problem. It works on mobile and desktop.
