Non-logged in user cannot comment – WP 1.5

  • I have a situation on my frontpage weblog where I, as a logged in admin, can easily and flawlessly post entries without error. However, when I or anyone else attempt to post a comment to an existing entry as a guest, non-logged in user, I get the following errors:

    Warning: gethostbyaddr(): Address is not a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address in /home/virtual/site101/fst/var/www/html/wp-includes/comment-functions.php on line 692

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/virtual/site101/fst/var/www/html/wp-includes/comment-functions.php:692) in /home/virtual/site101/fst/var/www/html/wp-comments-post.php on line 44

    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/virtual/site101/fst/var/www/html/wp-includes/comment-functions.php:692) in /home/virtual/site101/fst/var/www/html/wp-comments-post.php on line 45

    and the related comment is never posted. Is there something I am missing or something I can do to fix this? Thank you!

    Hmm. I am sorry to bump this back up but it occurred to me that some of the error messages were cropped off when I made the initial post. It seems the problems are all stemming from that first error:

    Warning: gethostbyaddr(): Address is not a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address in [. . .]/www/html/wp-includes/comment-functions.php on line 692

    This line is referenced in all of the errors that follow. I don’t know if this helps the troubleshooting at all, but it seems to be the root cause. As of now, only I (the only registered user) can make posts of any kind.

    Yet another update: Whenever this error occurs, I get the following in an email:

    I have replaced the links emailed with [link] simply for my own security.

    EDIT: Yet another update. It seems a non admin user has registered and attempted a comment, and still gets the same errors. So that means that I, the admin, am the only person for whom these errors are not generated. Please help if possible. Thank you.
